The wedge incline in the blade allows the axe to be used comfortably for both splitting and cutting work. Most camping hatchets feature a slim profile, designed primarily to be used as a cutting tool. The Vario 2000 hatchet blade is specifically shaped into a go-between tool that is efficient as both a cutting and splitting blade.

The Vario 2000 system is Helko Werk's patented axe design. All parts, heads, and handles are compatible with one another, and the screw system offers easy interchangeability. The head is assembled onto the handle with screws that are driven through the handle and are secured by a butt-plate retainer cap. The steel overstrike protector covers the assembly and offers protection to the handle. All parts are assembled with an allen wrench, which is supplied with each axe.
